Another third period comeback allowed the Mission City Outlaws to extend their win streak ahead of the final stretch of the regular season.
The Outlaws picked up their third straight win by dousing the Ridge Meadows Flames 4-3 at Cam Neely Arena Planet Ice on Sunday night (Jan. 29).
Blake Clease led the Outlaws with two third period goals, while Cole Moffat scored the game-winner one night after scoring the shootout winner over the Surrey Knights. Mission captain Chase Newman helped out with two assists and Max Fowle stopped 31 shots to earn the victory. Colton Tiviotdale netted two goals for the Flames in the loss, while Adam Konowalchuk contributed two assists.
Zach Lagrange opened the scoring for Ridge Meadows almost five minutes into the first period with his 17th goal of the season. However, a high sticking penalty for Derek Leroux put Mission on the power play. Brayden Candy capitalized on the man-advantage and continued his sweet stretch of play. Candy has scored in each of the Outlaws’ past three games, finding the back of the net on the power play, penalty kill and even strength.

In the second period, Tiviotdale scored his first of the game with six minutes remaining in the frame. Just 40 seconds later, Outlaws’ forward Joshua Romeyn was ejected and issued a five minute major penalty after a blow to the head. Mission killed off the penalty but were outshot by the Flames 15 to 8 in the period and trailed 2-1 heading into the third.
Coming out of the intermission, Clease scored a pair of early goals just 18 seconds apart to give the Outlaws a 3-2 lead. Tiviotdale tied it 3-3 with 13 minutes remaining but Moffat’s unassisted goal halfway through the period put Mission in front.
The Outlaws held on for the 4-3 victory and improved their record to 24-19. Mission sits third in the Harold Brittain conference with five games remaining in the regular season and a playoff spot secured. The squad is tied with the Chilliwack Jets with 48 points but has a game in hand.
Up next for Mission is a visit to Minoru Arena on Thursday (Feb. 2) for a matchup with the Richmond Sockeyes at 7:00 p.m. The squad will return home to Mission Leisure Centre on Saturday (Feb. 4) to face the Flames in a rematch at 6:45 p.m.
