The U14 female 400-metre short track speed skating final on Friday morning at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre was a great race.

Janie Green of Mission was in the lead for large portion of the race but unfortunately fell along the boards, allowing Abbotsford native Annabel Johnson to sneak into the lead and win the gold with a time of 44.25 seconds. Holly Antifay of Kamloops took the silver medal with a close time of 44.60 seconds, and Green settled for the bronze in a time of 54.97.

“I didn’t even know that I had won,” Johnson recalled with a wide grin on her face. “I was second for most of the race and someone came up and told me I had won after the race. I couldn’t believe it!”
