Speed Skating: Callie Swan adds to medal tally in the U16 1000m final

With win in U16 1000M, that makes four golds for Prince George girl

The U16 1000 metre final races proved to be full of excitement for those who chose to catch some speed skating action on Saturday afternoon at the Abbotsford Recreation Center.

Callie Swan of Prince George took the overall top spot in the women’s race with a time of 1:41.89, claiming one of her four gold medals in the 2014 Winter Games. Connie Kapak took home the silver medal representing the Thompson-Okanagan Zone Two team with a time of 1:43.30. Cara Maltese of the Fraser Valley would round out the medalists with a time of 1:46.02 to take the bronze.

In men’s action, Eric Spence’s time of 1:40.59 was just enough to win the gold medal for the Thompson-Okanagan, beating the Kootneys’ silver medalist Tyler Hartleb’s time of 1:40.91. Alex Chizawsky of the Fraser Valley Zone Three team won the bronze medal with a time of 1:41.56.
