Three Mission athletes win silver at BC Winter Games in Vernon

Jackson Hillman, Lachlan Sandford and Kohen Ikeda each reached the podium in their respective sports

Mission athletes got to the podium at the BC Winter Games in Vernon last weekend (March 23-26) and took home three silver medals for the Fraser Valley.

Eight athletes and two coaches from Mission participated in various competitions during the four-day event.

Jackson Hillman earned a silver medal in judo in the men’s Under-42 kg division, while Lachlan Sandford took home a silver in wheelchair basketball as a member of the Fraser Valley team.

Kohen Ikeda also earned silver in artistic gymnastics for the men’s floor competition and placed fourth in rings, fifth in high bars, and 10th in all-around competition.

Meanwhile in archery, Josiah Curwen placed fifth in the boys’ two-day aggregate recurve. Mission’s Linda Price also coached the Fraser Valley archery team that won a pair of gold medals and bronze medals over the course of the weekend.

Lily Crondahl took to the ice in figure skating and finished 10th in the Juvenile Women category, while Rebecca Campbell placed 13th in all-around women’s artistic gymnastics.

Jade Gilmore and Ethan Coreau competed in alpine skiing and did not place.

Overall, the Fraser Valley zone medalled 21 times with three gold, six silver and 12 bronze. The region finished fifth in the medal standings.
