VIDEO: Abbotsford drivers cut into bike lanes on neighbourhood street

Abbotsford resident films 30 minutes, sees nearly half of all drivers entering into lane

An Abbotsford resident has highlighted a road rule that appears to be broken by many local drivers - cars cutting into bike lanes.

Greg McKone recently shared a video he recorded in his Abbotsford neighbourhood of drivers cutting through the bike lane.

The tweet drew significant attention, including from ICBC who stated that they will be forwarding the videos to that organization’s Road Safety Coordinator for review.

Bike lane rules for Abbotsford state that motor vehicles are not allowed to drive, park or idle in the bike lane but are permitted to cross the lane in order to park and pull in and out of driveways. In addition, motorists turning right must yield to cyclists in the bike lane.

The drivers in the video would be violating those rules. McKone filmed approximately 30 minutes of footage, with 45 per cent of all drivers cutting into the bike lane.
