Drummers and supporters marched along First Avenue in downtown Mission on Thursday morning to show their support for the Bear Hide Campaign.
The campaign is a grassroots movement of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men who are standing up against violence towards women and children.
The march, which shut down one lane of the highway, went along First Avenue and down to North Railway Avenue.
After the march, participants listened to guest speakers and visited the Mission Friendship Centre, which organized the event, for deer stew, bannock and more drumming.
Organizers said the march signifies a commitment by men to honour, respect and protect the women and children in their lives and to work together with other men to end violence.
The slogan for the Bear Hide Campaign is I Can’t “Bear” To Hurt You.
