The Westwood Motorcycle Racing Club (WMRC) kicked off its 2018 season at Mission Raceway Park on the weekend.
The WMRC) began in 1959, and enjoyed many years of competitive racing at the Westwood circuit in Port Coquitlam with regional and national races being held there on a regular basis.
The Westwood circuit was closed in 1990 for land development, but thanks to it’s very dedicated members the WMRC was able to survive without a home track for over 10 years.
In 2001 the WMRC was invited to hold a “Test & Tune” day at Mission Raceway Park to see if it was feasible to run motorcycles on the 1.2 mile, nine turn road course. It was deemed to be safe enough for motorcycle roadracing and the first full WMRC racing season started in 2002.
Yearly improvements to Mission Raceway Park including the re-configuration of Turn 1 and the deployment of Airfence in a few key corners has resulted in a safer, faster and more enjoyable track.
