Ackles keynote speaker at Mission chamber AGM

Chamber of Commerce Week continues until Feb. 25, and it provides an opportunity for chambers province-wide to demonstrate the value offered, said the local organization.This value comes in the form of benefits and services to stimulate local economies, direct community promotion and support, and engaging in an important multi-level advocacy role which benefits the entire province, reads the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce press release.Advocacy efforts of chambers of commerce represent some of their most important work. Chambers raise issues that concern both their members and the community at large with local, provincial and federal governments.Chambers of commerce provide benefit, service and educational programs to their membership, supporting businesses and helping them achieve success.Annual general meetingMission Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual general meeting March 9, featuring a keynote address from 2011 Grey Cup general manager Scott Ackles.Ackles brings years of experience in the sports and entertainment industry to the 2011 Grey Cup Committee, most recently serving as president of the Calgary Stampeders and general manager of the 2009 Grey Cup Festival.Ackles will speak to the opportunities that a major event brings to not just the host city, but surrounding areas and the challenges of planning the Grey Cup Festival. This is a free event but registration is mandatory.The AGM will follow the speaker. Members will be voting on the bylaw amendments and for open positions on the board of directors.
