The annual Mission Candlelight Parade is cancelled this year, due to pandemic safety concerns and the new Provincial Health Orders for the Fraser Valley East.
This event – which is always made possible by the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mission, as well as countless volunteer organizations – is one that organizers look forward to making possible again in the future.
MORE: 2020 parade will be virtual
Last year the Candlelight Parade Committee worked tirelessly on four different parade plans due to the ever-changing health orders. Due to safety concerns of the pandemic and government mandates, the parade committee produced a virtual version of the parade complete with lights and a personal reading of “The Night Before Christmas” by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
With this year’s parade all viable options were considered. However, given the need to follow the health orders and with the capacity of our volunteer team, it was made clear that this year’s decision would be to cancel the Candlelight Parade for 2021.
The Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce thanks the City of Mission, Mission Record, What’s On Mission Magazine, Mission Optimist Club, Mission Crime Prevention Office, Mission Fire Department, Mission Downtown Business Association, BCRS Road Safe Inc, Mission RCMP and all of our volunteers that have always worked hard to execute this wonderful community event year after year.
Collectively, the parade committee looks forward to planning for the parade in 2022.
The parade committee would like to remind the community to donate to local St. Joseph’s Food Bank and Mission Community Services Society’s Christmas Bureau during the holiday season. As many collections take place at the parade we encourage the community to still come together to support local organizations.
