After spending seven days in an RV without food and water, a cat is now in the care of a Mission animal sanctuary.

According to a social media post from SAINTS Rescue, a local homeless camp was cleared out a few weeks ago and an abandoned RV was later hauled to the dump.

Authorities were contacted by someone a week later who said their diabetic cat, Cleo, was left inside the RV. Cleo is estimated to be 13 years old.

“Initially expecting the worst, officials began a search, but after seven days at the dump, hopes were low,” SAINTS said.

Cleo was discovered alive on the toilet seat inside the RV’s bathroom after 40 minutes of searching. SAINTS says Cleo’s spirit remained intact despite a week without food or water.

“Upon intake, we noticed her belly was quite distended, she was transferred from the authorities after being in their care for four days and we had suspicions that she might have been pregnant. After a vet visit and an x-ray it was shown just to be a food baby,” SAINTS said.

Cleo is thriving now that she is in SAINTS’ care. According to the post, she’s displaying a sweet and friendly disposition despite the hardships she endured.

“She is one of the sweetest cats we have ever had,” SAINTS said. “Never a bad word to say, and a purring at any interaction.”
