The annual Festival of Light: Diwali is set for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at the Clarke Theatre in Mission.

This year’s event is officially part of Mission’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

The evening features a free ethnic buffet dinner, live multicultural entertainment and a marketplace where patrons can purchase goods or visit community booths. The event draws almost 1,000 people every year.

“The family-friendly festival helps Mission in its efforts to be a more engaging, cohesive and knowledgeable community in cultural diversity,” said Sanjay Gulati, executive director of Mission Community Services Society (MCSS).

Sponsors are already being contacted for their support. More information on the event can be obtained by contacting organizing committee chair Rick Rake at rick.rake@missioncommunityservices.com.

Emcees this year are Satti Grewal and Abbotsford City Coun. Kelly Chahal.

Editor’s Note: A calendar of events published in the May 12 edition of the Mission Record incorrectly listed the date of the Festival of Lights as Sept. 10. The actual date is Oct. 11.
