A Mission family of five is asking for help, following its father falling ill and the subsequent financial distress.

A GoFundMe page was set up for Ray Nielsen by his brother Christopher, seeking donations to help stabilize the family’s situation as Nielsen battles liver and kidney failure.

“My brother Ray and his family are in severe financial distress due to an ongoing illness Ray is battling,” Christopher writes on the GoFundMe page, which was created on Jan. 27, 2021. “Funds will be used to maintain Ray and his family. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.”

The illness has left Nielsen unable to work, leaving the family worried about their future, Christopher said. Nielsen was admitted to hospital on April 4 due to fluid buildup around one of his lungs, he met with a transplant team on April 12, according to Christopher.

The GoFundMe page has raised $3,275 out of a goal of $30,000.
