LINC project helps Mission food bank

A new project is seeing inmates help in the local community garden as a way to reintegrate into society, learn job skills and aid the food bank.

Grounding in the Ground is a Long-Term Inmates Now in the Community (LINC) initiative that happens at the Soapbox Community Organic Garden, situated north of the Leisure Centre.

LINC founder Glen Flett is the garden manager and helps inmates on conditional release work on the plots and keep the area tidy.

Ten per cent of the produce is given to the food bank and some is sold at the Mission City Farmers’ Market. Proceeds are used to fund a support group for survivors of homicide.

Help LINC

The Mission-based group has also signed up for the Pepsi Refresh Challenge.

If the organization wins (determined through the highest number of online votes), it receives $25,000.
