Lumberjacks, pirates and more at annual Agrifair

Event runs Aug. 2 to 4 at Abbotsford Exhibition Park

Abbotsford’s annual Agrifair runs this Friday to Sunday (Aug. 2-4) at Exhibition Park.

This year’s theme is “Where Memories are Made.”

New events this year include Pirates of the Fraser, which tells a tale of battles, trickery, thievery and deception as the Royal Navy defends its fleet – in particular, The Maid of the Moors, its finest ship.

A test of skills will do the job to see who sails away with the ship – but maybe Crackers the Parrot has other ideas.

Also at this year’s event, raffle tickets will be sold to be part of the Crushin’-It event. Buyers can win a chance to sit in a tank as it crushes a car.

Proceeds from the raffle will be shared with Cops for Cancer, Canuck Place Abbotsford, CMEC and Agrifair.

Back after a 15-year absence is the Tractor/Truck Pull Competition and Show, presented by Campbell Motorsports of Chilliwack.

The competition starts Friday with local stock gas and diesel trucks, and continues Saturday leading up to the finals on Sunday afternoon.

Fair-goers can try their hand at being a “lumberjack” while watching the Laughing Loggers show and, on Saturday only, the Logger Sport Competition.

Returning favourites include the Racing Pig and Duck Show, the demolition derby in the Motorsports Arena, pro wrestling with special guest Davey Boy Smith Jr., antique farm machinery demos and kids’ pedal tractors, a multitude of 4-H exhibitors and competitors, Lego and the Shooting Star Midway.

Agrifair’s evening concert lineup features Talent with a Twist – based on the popular 1970s The Gong Show – on Friday.

Concert entertainment on Saturday starts with Cambree Lovesy, Ryan McAllister and the North Country Gentlemen and finishes with headliner Chilliwack.

Closing the fair on Sunday is the Praise in the Park concert with David Dunn, Mark Schultz and headliner The Afters.
