Mission Community Archives has created a video called “Meet Me on Main Street” as part of this year’s Culture Days celebrations.
The video can be seen on YouTube and prepared by archivist Val Billesberger, The subject of the video is First Avenue, a street that traverses the heart of what is known as “downtown Mission” which has a long and storied history.
This presentation features photographs and information housed in the archives dating from the 1900s to the 2000s used to recount some of the fascinating stories about Mission’s main street that lies within the traditional, ancestral, unceded and shared territories of the Leq’á:mel, Matheqwí, Qwó:ltl’el, and Sq’éwlets peoples.
Discover how Main Street has both changed and stayed the same over the past two centuries.
