Stories of our wartime heroes may be at risk of fading away, but there is an ongoing effort by the Royal Canadian Legion to preserve them.
The BC Yukon Command of the Legion has now published seven books chronicling the stories those who have served. The Military Service Recognition Book lists short profiles of members, both late and living, along with their photographs.
It also highlights Victoria Cross recipients and includes information on how to support and/or join the Legion.
But it can’t exist without public input. The committee responsible for publishing the book annually is currently finishing off their eighth edition, and they are putting out a call for more profiles and photographs.
Once published, the book is available free of charge at all Legion branches. The project is made possible through donations to the Legion, and is used as a way to help promote the work done by the Legion and to connect with younger generations.
The best way to be included in the next edition of the of the BC Yukon Command Military Service Recognition Book is by contacting the coordinator Gary Peters.
