The Mission Community Services Society (MCSS) Christmas Bureau caught a brake with donations from local bike shops this year.
Wenting’s Cycle and Mountain Shop and Independent Cycles in Mission both made sizable donations to MCSS in the way of bicycles for youth.
“We got a lot more [donations] than expected,” MCSS Christmas Bureau manager Tracy McCarthy said. “We received a huge bike order donation with brand new bikes for kids. Considering our concerns about inflation [affecting our goal], we’re almost there and we’re pretty impressed.”
Wenting’s continued its tradition of refurbishing donated bikes to get them ready for new families, according to a news release. Over a dozen bikes were serviced and sent to the Christmas Bureau to find a fresh rider for the new year.

Meanwhile, Independent Cycles used some of its surplus bike inventory to donate 12 brand-new bikes to the Christmas Bureau with accompanying helmets.
Independent Cycles is also running an advent tree throughout December. Each day, an item is available on the advent tree in exchange for a donation to their holiday fund or Christmas Bureau, with proceeds from the fund sent to the Hope Central holiday meal service.
Both bike shops are located in Downtown Mission - Wenting’s on Railway Avenue and Independent Cycles on First Avenue.
