Mission firefighters’ dodgeball tournament raises $3,600 for Movember Foundation

Twelve teams competed at Heritage Park Middle School on Saturday with a Langley team winning the tournament

The Mission Firefighters Charitable Society raised an estimated $3,600 for the Movember Foundation with their 5th Annual Dodgeball tournament this past weekend.

Twelve teams of up to eight players competed at Heritage Park Middle School on Saturday (Nov. 26) to support mental health and suicide prevention along with research into prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The tournament featured a firefighter team, a paramedic team and several lacrosse teams.

However, an actual dodgeball team from Langley was most successful. “Aim for Nick” outlasted the competition and won the tournament.

“It was nice to get back after the two year hiatus,” said the Mission Firefighters’ Charitable Society’s Shawn Barratt. “Fundraising really took a hit on the on a global scale for us so it was nice to have a social event get people out. I think it was well received.”

A social at HUBco Brewing followed the day’s festivities.
