The United Way Fraser Valley was in Mission Tuesday morning at the chamber of commerce handing out grant cheques to a pair of local groups.
Benefiting from the organization's efforts were New Heights Church, which received $10,000 to provide skills training for those on or leaving the streets; Mission's Kitchens, Gleaners Project, Soapbox Organic Community Garden, Mission Food Access Network coordinator and Long Term Inmates Now in the Community (LINC), which took home $10,000 for its joint projects.
The grant criteria specified projects must be for poverty reduction, ensuring children from birth to six years old succeed, and helping with affordable housing and homelessness.
