Mission recognizes CWY Week

Canada World Youth Week is being celebrated across the country this week.

Mission has joined 130 Canadian municipalities in proclaiming this week Canada World Youth Week (CWY) in recognition of the non-profit organization's 40th anniversary yesterday (Oct. 19).

A number of special events in Mission are planned to mark this occasion, including a Ukrainian cartoon show for kids at Mission Library today (Oct. 20), where used toys will be collected for children living with cancer; an international coffee house and used clothing collection at Union Gospel Church Oct. 21.

Since 1971, CWY has enabled 34,000 Canadians aged 15 to 29 to participate in international cooperation programs in over 67 countries. From Oct. 17 to 23, the work of these volunteers and the significant impact these experiences have had on thousands of youth around the world will be celebrated. This anniversary also coincides with the tenth anniversary of the United Nations’ International Year of Volunteers.
