Mission volunteers honoured at Community Service Awards

The City of Mission honoured some of its top volunteers last Thursday (April 11) at the Clarke Theatre for the Community Service Awards.

Joy Cox and Bob Ingram were presented with Freedom of the City medals at the ceremony to honour their lifelong service to the community.

Meanwhile, Janet Chalmers and Roger Dowker were named Citizens of the Year in recognition of their efforts on behalf of the city and its residents.

Dowker is the board chair of the Mission Community Services Society and Chalmers is the chair of the Mission Sunrise Rotary Club’s Starfish Backpack Program.

Other awards were presented to dozens of recipients for community service, lifetime achievements, volunteering in sports, community safety, youth contributions and diversity.

The awards ceremony is celebrated biennially.
