It has been almost three years since Jae Buchanan was featured in The Mission Record. At that time she was 97 years old and an active line dancer.

She told the paper that she won’t stop dancing and thinks it would be nice to still be dancing when she turns 100.

Earlier this month, that nice idea became a reality.

Buchanan enjoyed her 100th birthday on Nov. 16, surrounded by 60 members of her family and 70 line-dancing friends at a celebration luncheon hosted by her son and four daughters.

Buchanan is a remarkable lady, still driving locally. She lives in her own home, cooks her own meals and looks after the general upkeep of her home.

She has been line dancing for more than 20 years, three times a week now, but says if she had two new knees she would dance seven.

An inspiration to many, Buchanan dances in the seniors’ centres in both Mission and Abbotsford.

She says her longevity is due, in part, to the love of a good husband, now deceased, the joy of her family around her and visiting and dancing with her friends.

Her friends say her motto is: “If you want to do something, don’t ruminate – Just do it!”
