Mission Association for Community Living (MACL) has announced the winning name of the recent Name the Bus Contest for the former green literacy bus.

After receiving over 100 submissions, the winning name is “Words on Wheels” (WoW).

“The WoW bus is a unique and treasured resource for our community, promoting literacy and building connections,” said MACL CEO Dawn Hein.

“We are excited to have a new name that captures the essence of what the bus represents.”

The name represents more than just the books that are on the bus, but also the relationships that are built via conversations on the bus.

The conversations often create social connection, and the WoW bus is run by Phil and Laura, who provide snacks, books, toys, and warm clothes in the colder months.

The bus visits children’s centres promoting early learning. It also attends community events, the food bank, and has a long history of visits to local Indigenous communities.

The WoW bus has been used by both children and adults for many years. Its mission is to promote literacy, provide resource information, build community, and help people connect.

According to a press release, the name, “Words on Wheels,” captures the essence of the bus and its purpose, especially since the first thing that both children and adults say when they climb aboard the bus is “WOW!”

MACL owns and operates the WoW bus, and extends its thanks to everyone who participated in the contest.

“We are also grateful to the Rotary Club of Mission for supporting the prize for the winner, a gift basket valued at more than $500.

“While the winner wishes to remain anonymous, we extend our congratulations to them and our gratitude for their contribution. We appreciate their creativity and their commitment to our community,” the press release states.
