Riot of Reading returns to Mission for literacy week

The 20th iteration of the event featured food, face painting, magic, balloon animals and books

The 20th Annual Riot of Reading returned on Saturday (Jan. 28) in an effort to promote literacy in Mission.

The event was hosted by Mission Library and featured a traditional welcome song, remarks from Mayor Paul Horn and Abbotsford-Mission MLA Pam Alexis, a performance by Norden the Magician, face painting, balloon animals, the big green bus and an abundance of books.

The Riot of Reading event is a part of Canada’s Family Literacy Week and was a collaborative effort between the Mission Library, Mission Literacy in Motion, Mission Public Schools and Mission Community Services.

The event was created 20 years ago by two librarians who wanted to celebrate the richness of Family Literacy in Mission and to provide a showcase of all the supports and services available to families in the community.
