In B.C., family literacy is celebrated with a week filled with events happening in each community around the province.

In Mission, the celebration is called The Riot of Reading.

The 16th annual Riot of Reading: Family Literacy Fair, takes place on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ecole Mission Central, 7466 Welton Street.

This celebration has been made possible thanks to the planning and preparation of Mission Literacy in Motion’s Family Literacy Committee and our community partners.

The event includes food, music, story telling, prizes, and books. The masters of ceremonies will be Paul and David Horn.

Some of the entertainers include Norden the Magician, an Opening Nite Panto segment with Jennie and Camille, Clifford and Geronimo.

Throughout the day there will also be face painting by Camille Atebe and the popular Neon the Clown who will be working the crowds and tying balloon animals to delight his audience.

There will be several community service providers, groups, businesses and association showcasing what they have to offer families in Mission.
