Several seniors' events held Saturday

This Saturday marks the International Day of the Older person, and will complete Mission's Week of the Older Person, designated this past August by mayor and council.

Each year, Oct. 1 is recognized as a celebration of elder citizens' accomplishments in communities, focusing attention on their needs, and making the public more aware of the benefits of social, physical and spiritual activity for seniors.

The Mission Senior Centre Association will be taking part in several activities on Saturday and ongoing activities during the Week of the Older Person.

An art display and sale will take place in the lounge of the centre, located at Taulbut Street and 10 Avenue, all week between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Then today (Thursday) from noon to 4 p.m. there will be a community information fair, with various groups speaking about the needs of seniors in the community. During this time there will be a special tea from 1 to 3 p.m. to honour Mission seniors.

The cost of attending is $5 and there will be local musicians.

On Friday, the Old Age Pensioners Organization Branch 28 will hold a borscht luncheon from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and the cost is by donation.
