Sumas First Nation is preparing for the second annual With a Good Heart Powwow this weekend, in Abbotsford.
The event’s name is also Wac’ipi C’ante Was’te Yuhapi, and is hosted by Bear Paw, Marilyn Klassen. It runs runs June 9 to 11, and will include competitions for drumming and dancing, food trucks, a salmon barbeque and more.
The powwow will be led by Amiya Yellow Old Man from Siksika and Derek Silver from Semath First Nation (Sumas). The emcee will be Mike Sanchez from Spokane, Wash., and area director and head drum judge will be Dakota James.
Powwow competitions will include best dressed, team dancing, potato dance, owl dance, jigging, sweetheart dance, as well as hand drums.
