Many motorists who drive quickly past Silverdale Elementary School in Mission may want to slow down. A Tyrannosaurus Rex might just eat them.

It may sound strange, but it is all part of a “slow down” campaign started by the school’s principal.

“As with all schools, safety is a priority at Silverdale Elementary,” said principal Rob Clark.

Recently, Clark noticed that the school zone speed limits were not always adhered to by passers-by and he wanted to help drivers remember to slow down.

“Each morning I am outside by the road in an attempt to remind everyone that student safety is non-negotiable. I have the pleasure of having a caring and supportive community.

“The other day I asked them for their help and support. They have been amazing,” he said.

Parents have been coming out to help Clark keep an eye on the traffic around the school.

“They are available to watch traffic, indicate to vehicles to slow down when necessary, and show that we all care about the families here.”

Last Friday morning a parent showed up in a T-Rex suit.

“It was funny and effective,” said Clark.

Holding a sign that reads “Please slow down or I will eat you” the T-Rex caught the eye of many driver’s and helped to spread the safety message.
