United Way Fraser Valley has a record $118,000 available for programs that the community has identified as the most important social issues.

United Way Fraser Valley has a record $118,000 available for programs that the community has identified as the most important social issues.

Applications are open to charitable organizations serving the Fraser Valley that have programs focused on reducing poverty, reducing homelessness or ensuring the success of children up to six years old may.

To be eligible for a grant, programs or projects must be preventive in nature and be for a new project or the expansion of services. Application deadline is 4 p.m. on Nov. 15.

Grant applications are available online at www.uwfv.bc.ca.

Last year, grants provided funding for nine programs in the Fraser Valley, including a small loan program for people at risk of being evicted for not paying rent, a community kitchen in Mission, a transition house in Chilliwack and the the SCampER program to help at-risk children prepare for Grades 2 and 3.
