It’s time to put on your coat, hat and scarf and go for a walk.

On Feb. 23 MY House and Hope Central are hosting the Coldest Night of the Year, a two, five and 10 kilometre winter walk in support of their work in Mission.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a fun, family-friendly walk-a-thon that raises money for the hungry, homeless and hurting.

Similar walks take place across Canada in more than 125 cities.

The goal is to raise $30,000 by Feb. 23. To accomplish that goal, organizers are looking for 20 team captains (of all shapes, sizes and ages) who will recruit seven or eight friends to their team, with a goal of raising $2,000 per team.

Other walkers are welcome to join in the event as well to help raise funds.

In addition, sponsorships for this event are also available. Any business wanting to reach a wider audience while aligning with a charity dedicated to life change can contact the organizers.

For information on taking part, or to sponsor the event, call Calvin at 604-302-2346 or visit :

About the groups:

MY House (Mission Youth House) is a collaborative initiative to provide a place for youth to eat, shower, do laundry, access medical and other services and receive help from caring adults. MY House is a warm and friendly environment for our community’s most vulnerable youth to find refuge and support. It is run by a cooperative of different organizations and volunteers and is a true collaboration of caring and generosity.

Hope Central is about building relationships to make changes. They have a vision of rallying like-minded people to collaborate in a unified community that brings hope to the hungry, homeless and hurting neighbors. It’s commitment is to the whole person and our beginning place is often around the table providing meals and various other programs and services.
