Local artist Tammie Justina Samuel has donated an original piece of her artwork to help raise money for the Mission Hospice Society.

Entitled “Stirring in Your Memory” the piece can be viewed at Gallery 202 located at 202-33072 First Ave. in Mission.

Raffle tickets will be available for $10 each at the Gallery or by emailing events@missionhospice.bc.ca. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised will be used to support the work of the Mission Hospice Society in the community.

“The end of life care that the Mission Hospice Society provides not only offers a place to spend those precious last moments, but it’s also a place of forgiveness, healing, acceptance and compassion,” said Samuel.

“Life hurts, and it affects each and every one of us in different ways.

“Donating my artwork to causes, is my way of saying, I hear you and I want to help. This painting is about how one’s mind may look as we try to process the loss of a loved one. We feel broken, scattered but we still find beauty in our memories,” she explained.

In 2018, a body of work was beginning to build up, and that was the start of a journey that is now being recognized as Knellwolf Artworks, proudly named after Samuel’s father.

In memory of her grandmother, the paintings are signed using Samuel’s second given name, Justina.

Being a self taught artist, Samuel has experimented with many styles throughout the years but found a natural connection with contemporary and a minimalist art style bringing together her keen interests in the psychology behind art, and colour therapy as well as finding great inspirations in contemporary interior design, nature and cityscapes.

The Mission Hospice Society is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization offering a wide range of programs and services, supporting families and loved ones through end of life compassionate care in the community since 1985.
