A longtime Mission volunteer has taken up acting with a featured role in an upcoming presentation by a new dinner theatre company in Whonnock.
Glen Kask will appear in Theatre in the Country’s comedy Noises Off for a four-week run, which started Jan. 23.
Theatre in the Country came about last year through the work of a group of dedicated thespians who are passionate about bringing quality theatre to the Fraser Valley.
Kask has lived in Mission for more than 30 years and jumped at the chance to perform at the dinner theatre, located in the former Whonnock elementary school on 272 Street in Maple Ridge. Since he retired from a career in teaching and journalism, he has performed with Gallery 7 in Abbotsford and Opening Nite Theatre at the Clarke Theatre in Mission.
Kask still remains active as a community volunteer, serving on several boards and committees as well as volunteering at blood donor clinics, litter clean-up events and other community projects.
For the past two years, Kask has revived the Taste of the Arts in Mission, an intimate evening featuring published authors, music performances and art displays. Several years ago, he established the Glen Kask Theatrical Legacy Fund with the Mission Community Foundation to provide funding assistance to theatre groups in the community.
In his current role in Noises Off, Kask faces the daunting challenge of playing an aging actor who keeps forgetting his lines. The show is a boisterous comedy in the fine tradition of British farce.
