HERITAGE WEEK: Provincial, national parks systems founded in 1911

A Century of Conservation: Parks and Cultural Landscapes, has been chosen as the theme for Heritage Week 2011 in recognition of the centennial of both BC Parks and Parks Canada this year.

Created in 1911, Canada’s Dominion Parks Service was the first such national organization in the world. The same year, the provincial government passed legislation to create Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island, marking the beginning of the provincial parks system.

Heritage BC is a provincial, non-profit association with 165 member groups throughout B.C.
