Paydora Tango Ensemble on tap for matinee performance

The Harrison Festival Society is taking a show on the road.

The Season of Performing Arts continues as the Harrison Festival Society presents Payadora Tango Ensemble. The ensemble takes the stage at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre (9201 Corbould Street) on Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m.

Payadora upholds a blend of of Argentinian and Uruguayan traditions, including folk music, tangos and waltzes all while creating their own compositions. The ensemble is officially endorsed by the Argentinian Consulate in Toronto for adhering to the the spirit of tango.

Payadora Tango Ensemble formed in 2013 in Toronto. They currently consist of Rebekah Wolkstein (violin/vocals), Drew Jurecka (badoneon/violin/vocals), Joseph Phillips (bass), Robert Horvath (piano) and Elbio Fernandez (vocals). They have performed at such sold-out venues as the Ottawa Chamberfest, Vancouver Island MusicFest and Tango Festival in Victoria. Payadora has also taken their music abroad on a sold-out European tour, making stops in Madrid, Copenhagen, Budapest and London.

“The Festival Society decided that this show presents a special opportunity to connect with its Chilliwack audience, and to partner with the Cultural Centre,” the Harrison Festival Society said in a recent statement. “The music features highly skilled, classically trained piano playing, and the Cultural Centre possesses a beautiful piano that will enhance the show.”

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Chilliwack Cultural Centre’s website at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, and they will be available at the door.

The Payadora Tango concert is part of the Season of Performing Arts, a traditional concert series put on by the Harrison festival every year for the past 35 years. Season of the Performing Arts typically runs September through May and consists of eight to 10 performances.
