Three Mission RCMP vehicles were damaged by a truck fleeing a traffic stop in Hatzic on Sunday night (Feb. 25).
The collisions occurred after police attempted to pull over a white Dodge Ram while investigating a separate incident from earlier in the evening. According to a news release, the driver initially complied before turning around and ramming into a police vehicle.
The truck hit another police vehicle before colliding with a third while trying to cross a small bridge. Mission RCMP stopped the Dodge Ram by using a police vehicle to push it into a ditch. No officers were injured as a result of the incident.
Mounties say evidence consistent with drug trafficking was located inside the truck. Multiple charges have been recommended against the driver.
“This was a very dangerous situation and it’s fortunate that no one was seriously injured,” Mission RCMP Cpl. Harrison Mohr said in a news release.
“One minute, a vehicle appeared to be complying with a traffic stop, then all of a sudden the full-size pickup truck turned around and drove into three police cars. Our officers recognized that the driver of this vehicle posed an immediate safety risk, and acted quickly to immobilize his vehicle before anyone got hurt.”
The detachment is investigating whether the driver was connected to a stolen black truck involved in a theft earlier in the evening.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., a security guard at a construction site on Maple Street in Mission witnessed a black truck pull up to the site. A passenger allegedly smashed the window of another parked truck, stole items from inside and returned to the black truck to flee.
Police later responded to a report that three people got out of a suspicious black truck speeding into a trailer park in Hatzic.
Mission RCMP say it appeared to be the same black truck used in the theft and was stolen from Langley the day before.
Police contained the area to try and find the three men when an officer noticed the white Dodge Ram pickup truck driving in the area. The officer attempted to pull over the truck, leading to the collision with three police vehicles.
The detachment says investigations into both the stolen black truck and the white truck are still ongoing.
Those with information are urged to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 24-2274.
