One man was arrested in Hope last week after allegedly pulling a gun during a fight in Mission.

According to Mission RCMP’s weekly “Community Connection” crime recap, police were called to a mobile home park on Wilson Street at 9:30 p.m. on April 9 for a reported fight.

Police say a dispute between three men escalated quickly and turned violent, with a long gun reportedly produced during the dispute.

No shots were fired but two of the men sustained “considerable injuries” as a result of the scuffle and were transported to hospital. Officers spoke with the two men inside a residence but a third man already left.

The third man was arrested days later by RCMP in Hope. Charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm have been recommended.

The incident was one of 270 calls for service the Mission RCMP received from April 8 to 14.

Earlier on April 9, numerous pairs of men’s Timberland boots and mostly-red men’s Puma shoes were stolen from a store on 32545 London Avenue.

Mission RCMP say the break-and-enter occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Officers arrived to find that the front glass door had been smashed.

Mounties will be reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.

Meanwhile, a witness reported a chase between two men near Cedar Street and 7th Avenue last Friday morning (April 12).

One of the men said the other had just come onto his Juniper Street property and stole a piece of specialized equipment, according to Mission RCMP.

Mounties searched the area and identified a potential hiding spot, with the help of witnesses.

“An officer noticed an arm sticking out from a bush, which caught the officer’s attention, as bushes are not typically armed,” Mission RCMP said.

A man in possession of the stolen property was arrested and held for a bail hearing. Police say he was in breach of his probation conditions due to the additional possession of a replica firearm and bolt cutters.

Later in the week, police received a report of a back car speeding along Stave Lake Road with a tire on fire at roughly 10:45 p.m. on Sunday (April 14).

Mission RCMP attended and found tire remnants on the bridge near Farms Road. Police also discovered marks on the road due to the vehicle only riding on the metal rim of the wheel.

Police say the officer followed the trail off the road into some fallen trees and a large rock, where the vehicle apparently crashed, but had since driven off again.

“The tire markings then continued on, eventually leading to the 11400 block of Stave Lake Road, where a vehicle was located, parked and unoccupied, with one of the front wheels bent completely perpendicular to the front of the car. The officer also noted broken headlights and damage to the front bumper and passenger side. The driver had evidently left the vehicle and walked away,” Mission RCMP said.

Mission RCMP says there was no indication of any injury.
