When Magnuson Ford received word they were nominated for the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Established Business of the Year (20+ employees), owner Layne Magnuson was asked to share with the Chamber board what makes the dealership different.
Recognizing outstanding organizations and individuals that strive for excellence, Business Excellence Award recipients are leaders in their industry with a commitment to customer service, a concern for the community and a passion for innovation.
“They want to see that you’re not only successful in business but that you go above and beyond,” Layne recalls.
He told the board about a couple who visiting from Quebec whose motorhome broke down. There were no financial benefits for the Magnuson team, yet they went to great lengths to try to get the couple on their way again, finding them a hotel and even storing some of their belongings when they had to take the train home.
“I was pretty proud of our team,” Layne reflects.
A culture of customer service
Proud also describes the Layne’s view of the dealership’s success in raising more than $407,000 for local charities, schools and community organizations through its 113 Drive One 4 UR Community events. In fact, no Canadian Ford dealership has hosted more Drive One events.
“Community and customer service are culture here,” Layne says, pointing as well to initiatives like transparent pricing – no hidden fees or other “surprises” creating sticker shock when you sign for your new vehicle.
“We talk about it at every meeting, and everyone here in all departments are empowered to do the right thing.”
The President’s Nod
Ford Canada also emphasizes a culture of service through its President’s Award. Ford’s highest dealership accolade combines sales and service excellence. Dealerships must have the top market share in their communities, and need to be among the top dealers in their territory for customer service scores. After winning last year, the Magnuson Ford team is hoping for a second straight win this year, which would be the third time they’ve won since 2015!
Both awards demonstrate that Magnuson’s culture of service and transparency matters to customers. In addition to an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, the dealership also boasts 4.5-star Google and Facebook ratings, but they still always strive to improve, a key factor in their success.
