Mission council has four newcomers and two incumbents.

Mission council has a new look following tonight’s municipal election.

Voters elected four new faces, along with two incumbents to lead the district in the next four years.

Topping the polls with 4269 votes was newcomer Jag Gill who said he was “feeling good” now that the election was over.

“I’m happy. I didn’t know if I was gonna win,” said Gill when he arrived at Mission city hall.

“I wanted to say congratulations to everyone that won and even for the candidates who ran in the whole election and didn’t win, I wanted to say congratulations to them.”

He said he owes everything to the residents of Mission.

“I don’t even consider this my win, it’s their win. I’m gonna go home, I’m going to actually sleep – because I haven’t slept properly in almost a month… and then I’m going to start prepping, reading files, reading notes, so I can sit at the table and perform my best and use my work ethic to provide for the residents of Mission. To make Mission the best it can be.”

Another newcomer to politics, but no stranger to the community, Cal Crawford was second in council voting with 3777 votes.

Incumbent Carol Hamilton was third with 3611 votes.

“I’m feeling excited that we’re going to have quite a new council to work with under the leadership of Pam Alexis,” said Hamilton.

“It’s going to look different but I’m sure we’re all going to come together and do a great job for this city.”

Hamilton is not worried about all of the changes on council.

“My mantra is change is inevitable, growth is optional.”

Another incumbent, Danny Plecas, finished fourth with 3486 votes followed by Ken Herar (2847) and Mark Davies (2521).

Council candidates who did not receive enough votes to win a seat were:

Carla Janis 2472

Jim Hinds 2317

Jennifer Holmes 2090

Mike Nenn 1871

Ashley Sharpe 1766

Jeff Jewell 1753

Doug Lifford 1667

Dave Westley 1322

Tracey Lee Norman 1317

Neil Smith 1258

Kelly Apostoliuk 1236

Anne Graham 1158

Alan Pedersen 532
