The higher share of children in Abbotsford and Mission is attributed to the municipalities’ younger, family-oriented community.

Mission and Abbotsford have the highest share of children in Canada.

The 2015 data from Statistics Canada show that the Abbotsford-Mission census metropolitan area (CMA) has 18 per cent of its population ages newborn to 14.

The higher share of children in Abbotsford and Mission has been attributed to the municipalities’ historically younger, family-oriented community.

Jonathan Chagnon of Statistics Canada said that in 2012 the area also ranked fourth in the nation for those aged zero to four.

The population growth rate in the CMA is 1.4 per cent, higher than the Canadian rate which is 0.9 per cent.
