A plumbing issue has put the Mission Community Services Food Centre in hot water.

On Friday (Dec. 10) morning, staff come into the Food Centre to discover water everywhere after the hot water tank burst.

Staff quickly shut off the water but the damage was done.

“There were a bunch of food hampers that were close by and the kitchen had quite a bit of water everywhere,” explained Kevin Tatla, manager, community resources for Mission Community Services.

He said they are still assessing the damages to the building and trying to determine how much food was destroyed.

“We are going to have to repackage the hampers and get some more food in,” he said.

The organization is putting the call out for more donations, and volunteers, to help replace and reorganize the hampers and recover the losses.

“The timing couldn’t be worse,” said Tatla as there is only two weeks to go before Christmas.

Anyone who wants to make a donation or volunteer to help can visit missioncommunityservices.com, or stop by the Christmas Bureau office in the Junction Shopping Centre or the Community Services office on Second Ave.
