A forest fire north of Mission that spread to 19 hectares is now under control, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The fire was discovered on May 14 near Davis Lake Provincial Park and was out of control until May 17, when the status was changed to “being held”.
Firefighters from Coastal Fire Centre battled the blaze on rugged terrain with a helicopter and heavy equipment. The fire burned through a cutblock.
Coastal Fire says the fire was caused by human activity but the exact cause of the fire won’t be determined until an investigation is complete.
Davis Lake Park is located to the northeast of Mission and 18 km north from Lougheed Highway on Sylvester Road.
According to a special air quality statement from Environment Canada on May 16, wildfire smoke from the Davis Lake fire contributed to hazy conditions in the northeast part of the Fraser Valley.
