A GoFundMe has been set up for the victims of the Dec. 1 landslide, who lost their home when a private road collapsed sending mud, debris and logs crashing into it.
The donation page has been set up by the Mission Downtown Business Association (DBA), as the home belongs to Ruth Janes, the owner of English Tarts of 1st Avenue.
No one was hurt in the incident, but the only things the family have been able to retrieve from the property are some clothes and basic necessities, said the creator of the GoFundMe page.
“They have a safe place to stay but Ruth and her family were left with nothing but the clothes on their backs in the blink of an eye,” the page says.
“It is going to be a long, difficult, and emotional process to recover and rebuild from this tragic event.”
Janes is grateful for the sympathy expressed by people visiting the store, but is emotionally overwhelmed at the moment, according to the donation page.
The DBA are encouraging donations through the GoFundMe page, or to drop off gift cards to their office at 7311 James St.
The page’s $5,000 goal been reached in under 24 hours.
