Human remains have been discovered in Mission.

In the early evening hours of April 6, a hiker, who was walking the forest near the 31000 block of Hillcrest Avenue, located what was believed to be human remains.

According to an RCMP press release, “the hiker called 911 and officers attended the area and confirmed the remains were human, secured the immediate area and notified the coroner.”

There are no initial indications as to the circumstances that led to the person’s death or the identity of the remains and it “appears the remains have been there for some time.”

The RCMP Forensic Identification Team is currently on scene as well as Mission RCMP Serious Crime Members.

“We are asking for the public to avoid the area to allow investigators the ability to finish processing the scene” said Mission RCMP media officer Cpl. Jason Raaflaub.

The Mission RCMP are working to determine the identity of the deceased, although unless it is required to further the investigation, the RCMP will not be publicly identifying the individual.
