The watchdog agency that oversees police is seeking witnesses to an arrest in Langley City that left one woman injured.
According to an IIO announcement on March 21, the incident took place around 8 p.m. on Jan. 12 this year.
Langley RCMP had been called to a building in the 5600 block of 201A Street, after someone reported a disturbance.
Police found and spoke to the woman who was the subject of the disturbance complaint. They told her she was being placed under arrest.
The woman suffered what the IIO calls “a serious but not life-threatening injury while being taken into custody.”
The IIO was notified of the incident on Jan. 22, 10 days after the arrest.
So far, the early phase of the investigation has been to confirm that the injury meets the threshold of “serious harm” under the Police Act.
The agency is still investigating “whether police actions were necessary, proportionate, and reasonable under the circumstance.”

The IIO investigates any incident of death or serious harm related to police officers in B.C., whether there is an allegation of wrongdoing or not.
