Jewel theft suspect arrested after year-long investigation by Mission RCMP

Charges have been laid against a 38-year-old man in relation to a break and enter at Lanka Jewels last year.

On the morning of May 18, 2015, Lanka Jewels in Mission was the target of a break and enter.  A quantity of jewelry was taken during the incident by masked suspects who fled from the location and were not initially located by police.

Mission RCMP initiated an investigation which lasted over a year.

As a result of that investigation a 38-year-old Langley man, Rene Berlinguette faces two charges – one count of break and enter and commit indictable offence and one charge of disguising face with intent to commit indictable offence.

“This was a significant property crime incident in this community and we are pleased to announce that we have laid charges as a result of this lengthy investigation,” said Mission RCMP Sgt. Shaun Wright.

“Police are not in a position to disclose details of ongoing investigations but we want the public to know that we are working hard to solve crimes such as this and remove criminals from the streets,” he added.
