The popular gazebo/bandstand at Fraser River Heritage Park is out of commission.

Mission Fire Rescue was called to the park on Sunday (Jan. 30) night at about 11 p.m. after it was reported the structure was ablaze.

Two trucks from Hall One were deployed and once they arrived, firefighters discovered the corner of the bandstand was on fire and had spread to the basement area of the gazebo

“The damage is significant,” said Mission Fire Chief Mark Goddard.

“We investigated the fire today (Monday, Jan 31) and ruled out all sources of electricity or any other benign soucres and are considering it suspicious, but undetermined at this time.”

The structure has been taped off and Goddard said the issue has been handed over to the City’s Parks and Recreation Department to decide what to do with the remains of the building.
