A Mission family has had to find a new place to stay after a fire forced them from their home.

Mission Fire Rescue Services were called out on Thursday night at about 9:50 p.m. to a blaze at 7477 Martin Place, a single-story residential house.

“When the crews showed up they found the structure heavily involved in fire,” said Assistant Fire Chief Ian Glasgow, adding flames were visible in several areas.

According to Glasgow, the renters of the house were at home when the blaze began. Everyone made it out of the building safely and there are no injuries to report. However the home was badly damaged.

“There is heavy fire damage to the rear of the structure. The fire got into the roof space and spread throughout the structure,” said Glasgow.

Fire investigators are now on scene and no cause has been determined at this time.

Firefighters acted quickly to contain the fire to the one house.

“One of our initial responsibilities was to protect those homes on either side,” said Glasgow.

One of the two neighbouring homes had minimal heat damage.

Four fire trucks and approximately 20 firefighters were on scene to battle the blaze.
