Mission’s Brittany O’Rourke will be competing for the Miss BC crown on June 30.

She will be one of 50 contestants in the Miss BC, Miss Teen BC and Mrs. BC Pageant.

The pageant is a development program for young women and for married women.

“The Miss BC Pageant celebrates all women, and yes, we would welcome transgendered contestants,” said Darren Storsley, creator and producer.

Leading up to the final pageant, all contestants receive professional training in areas such as public speaking, interview skills, media relations, modelling, manners, leadership, health, fitness, self-esteem, and even self defence.

“This is not a beauty pageant,” said Storsley, who was crowned Mr. World Canada in 2007. “It will be a well-rounded, intelligent, outgoing, and well-spoken lady who will win the crown, not necessarily the most beautiful girl.”

The public can vote for their favourite contestant for the People’s Choice Award at www.missbc.ca. Miss BC, Miss Teen BC, and Mrs. BC will be crowned on June 30 at the Chief Sepass Theatre in Fort Langley.

The pageant will be broadcast on Shaw Television later this fall.
