Mission skaters tested their speed

Speed Week included a fun event for all ages

The Mission Racers hosted an event on Oct. 13 at the local leisure centre for Speed Week in which people of all ages tested their skating skills.

The group called the event a “friendly competition by racing a lap to see where they end up on the Speed Week leaderboard.”

Money raised went to Kidsport.

“As a club we are excited to support an organization that has helped may of our skaters be able to participate in speed skating,” said Emily Barnsdale of the Mission Racers. “Speed skating is all about speed but also having fun. We know there are many fast skaters in our communities, active hockey and figure skating programs, and also recreational skaters. This is a great opportunity for local skaters to come race the clock to see how they rank both in Mission and throughout B.C. We also welcome local businesses to join or challenge by sending their representative to race on their behalf.”

Using a format similar to that used by the NHL Skills Competition, skaters raced against the clock. Individual skaters completed one lap of the track to claim the fastest time.
