A pair of Mission students placed in the top three in their public speaking categories this past week.
A total of five local French-speaking students competed in the Canadian Parents for French BC and Yukon's Concours d'art oratoire, held May 3 at Surrey SFU. The annual competition attracted more than 10,000 students from across British Columbia, and 285 made the provincial finals.
Keegan Heaven, a Grade 7 early immersion student from Christine Morrison Elementary School, earned second place for his speech on Nelson Mandela.
Leila Rasti, a Grade 6 intensive French student, took third place for her talk titled, "The most important person in my life: me."
Other finalists from Mission were Jenai Konings, Chelsea Langan and Amy Marie Short-Garber.
"It's an incredible feat to make it to the provincial finals – taking home a medal is a real achievement. We congratulate everyone who participated; they are all winners. Felicitations!" said chief judge Dr. Renee Hamilton-Clark.
